The main installation of this laboratory is a high-current small-scale cyclotron MGC-20, which accelerates protons, deuterons, and helium ions within wide energy range (cyclotron-master - Lebedev Lev Stepanovich). In MGC-20 cyclotron they fabricate 123I and 67Ga, radioisotopes to be used in synthesis of radiopharmaceuticals.

This Laboratory was the place, where for the first time in Russia they had brought into practical use technologies of 123I radionuclide recovery (1990) and fabricating of radiopharmaceuticals traced with iodine-123:
- sodium iodide, 123I (for thyroid gland disease diagnosis);
- sodium ortho-iodine-hippurate, 123I (for kidney disease diagnosis);
- meta-iodine-benzyl guanidine, 123I (for endocrine system disease diagnosis);
- ÊÏÄÏÆÅÎ, 123I (for cardiologic diseases diagnosis).
Diagnostic examinations realized with the help of these radiopharmaceuticals allow to 50-100-time decrease in radiation exposure dose to a patient in comparison with usually applied medications on the bases of iodine-131.
For tumor disease diagnosis they have elaborated technologies for 67Ga radioisotope recovery and on it's basis - fabricating of radiopharmaceutica -l "citrate of gallium-67"
General methods (isotopic exchange or complexon generating reaction) used to produce radiopharmaceuticals assure their radionuclide purity above 99.5% and radiochemical purity above 95%.
The Laboratory annually supplies radiopharmaceuticals to 20 medical institutions of Saint-Petersburg.
