FSUE RPA V.G. Khlopin Radium Institute's Division for Isotopes was established in May of 2001 on the basis of scientific and research department for isotopes, which implemented since 1973 studies and designs, related to radionuclide subjects.

Division for isotopes for the period of it's working has developed designs and technologies for tens types of ionizing radiation sources, radionuclide sources of heat and light, hundreds denominations of various class compositions marked with tritium, tens compositions marked with carbon-14, wide range of radioisotopic compounds.

Since 1993 the Division for Isotopes in close cooperation with Radium Institute's Applied Radiochemistry Division (SEC) located in the building of hot cells in the territory of Constantinov PIYaF (Nuclear Physics Institute) in Gatchina, and together with OOO "RIMEKS" enterprises elaborates, fabricates, and supplies to Russian and international markets a lot of various radionuclide compounds and sources. Alpha-emitting sources based on 238Pu, 239Pu, 241Am, 210Po, isotopes, beta-radiation sources on the basis of 3H, 63Ni, 85Kr, 90Sr isotopes, X-ray and gamma-radiation sources based on isotopes of 55Fe, 57Co, 60Co, 65Zn, 85Kr, 109Cd, 119mSn, 125I, 133Ba, 137Cs, 226Ra, 238Pu, 241Am, 244Cm, and a number of other isotopes, as well as carbon-14- and tritium-based marked compounds, which have been developed by Division's efforts, are currently applied with success in scientific investigations, in industry (mining, pulp-and-paper, oil producing, etc.), and also in medicine (diagnostics, therapy). A wide range of standard patterns of spectrometric sources of alpha, beta, and gamma radiation, as well as of radionuclide solutions has been developed and is currently supplied for radiometric and spectrometric equipment calibration.

At present Isotope Division carries out the works in the following directions:

  • design and fabrication of radionuclide sources of alpha and beta radiation, sources of X-ray and "soft" gamma radiation for devices destined for X-ray fluorescent analysis and nuclear medicine;
  • engineering of the sources for general technical purposes;
  • engineering of Mossbauer's sources;
  • design of light sources based on gaseous radionuclides: tritium, krypton-85;
  • elaboration of technology to obtain various application radionuclides;
  • development of synthesizing of marked biologically active compositions on the basis of tritium and carbon-14;
  • design of centralized radionuclide generators for medical purposes;
  • development of synthesizing of various element volatile compositions suitable for isotope separating in gas centrifuges;
  • marketing of international and domestic markets of radionuclide production;
  • fabrication and supply of wide assortment radionuclides, preparations, and sources on their basis;
  • rendering of services on mechanical and climatic testing of imitators of various radionuclide sources and their components for compliance with technical requirements and normative documents.

Isotope Division consists of the following subdivisions:

  • Laboratory aimed at design and fabricating of radionuclide sources of alpha and beta radiation, X-ray and "soft" gamma radiation sources for devices destined for X-ray fluorescent analysis and application in nuclear medicine.
