The department was formed in 1973. ÇÏÄÕ. It was organized and headed during twenty years by the professor, d.ch.s., USSR State Award twice Laureate Anatoliy Sergeevich Krivokhatskiy - the outstanding scientist in the field of theoretical and applied radiochemistry of actinoid elements, the creator of radiochemical foundation for underground nuclear explosion application with the purpose to solve national economy problems.
Famous scientists, as follows, worked in this department: d.ch.s., Lenin's Award and V.G. Khlopin's Award Laureate Vera Iliinichna Grebenschikova - the outstanding scientist in the field of fundamental and applied radiochemistry, one of creators of precipitation technology for weapons-grade plutonium fabricating; d.ch.s., V.G. Khlopin's Award Laureate Valentina Rudolfovna Clockman - the famous scientist in the field of the chemistry of radioactive elements in salt melts .
At present the staff of this department includes 3 Doctors of Sciences, 3 USSR State Award Laureates, 12 Candidates of Sciences; total number of department's employees - 70 scientific and technical-engineering associates. The department includes 4 laboratories.
